Swede spot

Lusso | 5 Feb 2013

When the pilot lands the plane and says in a jolly voice that the ground temperature is minus anything, it’s enough to send me back to my bed in thermals and with a steaming cup of ginger tea. Like now. I hate the cold. Worse than that, whoever does the early March web weather forecast has had a laugh and put a positive spin on Swedish thermometer readings – so I am not now prepared for Stockholm’s sub Arctic temperatures.

Anti-ageing: can this man convince you to go under the knife?

High50 | 2 Nov 2012

Under-eye bags big enough to carry your weekend gear? Crows’ feet, rabbit lines (on the nose), smokers’ lines? What about muffin-top tummy or basement-level libido and energy? Or maybe tits/moobs going south, saggy bum or wattle (that’s a wobbly double chin)?

Sukotai, Bangkok

Country & Town House | 24 Oct 2012

Although Sukotai is aurrounded by the high-rise buildings of Bangkok, on of the noisiest and most traffic-choked cities in the world, the 210-room hotel is an exercise in Zen. Granted, one is the former US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice and the other is Darla Moore, one of the US’s most powerful businesswomen but still…In Sicily, at the Verdura Golf & Spa Resort, they’re positively demanding that women swap their Louboutins for studded shoes. They’re whooping about a rise in ‘girlie golf’ and are planning a ladies’ tournament for next years.

A castle in Tuscany

Waitrose | 18 Aug 2012

Standing under the shade of a tree in the gardens of Castello di Vicarello, Nonna is rolling out a bed-sheet sized piece of pasta on a table. There’s a gentle breeze and the scent of jasmine and lavender fills the air. The 12th-century castle in the Maremma region of southwest Tuscany is framed by vineyards and rolling hills on which wild boar roam.

Kamalaya: is this Thailand’s best spa?

High50 | 8 Aug 2012

Everyone leaves there having made at least one change in their lives. That’s what I’m told about Kamalaya health spa in Koh Samui, Thailand. Guests rid themselves of multiple pounds (in weight and currency), have a turn of direction in their heart-attack-headed lives, and rejuvenate bodies more burnt out than a forest fire.
